UK e-liquid takes on the world

Monday 10th October, 2016 | Vaping news and lifestyle blog

Learn more about why you should always choose high quality, UK made e-liquid over e-liquids made in other countries.

When you buy an e-liquid, you might think you know exactly what you’re getting inside – or you might not care. However, differences in the manufacturing process could mean that you are not inhaling the ingredients you think you should be, and that matters a lot.

In the UK, e-liquid is made from four base ingredients. These are nicotine, Vegetable Glycerine, Propylene Glycol, and flavourings. We take a look at why these are important and why you should choose a good quality, UK made e-liquid.

Nicotine

Some e-liquids contain diluted nicotine, while others are nicotine free. You’ll find different strength nicotine e-liquids in the UK, all with the nicotine concentration clearly marked. Many manufacturers here display their nicotine concentration as an easy to read percentage - for instance 18mg of nicotine in a 10ml bottle will be 1.8%. This makes it very easy to work out what percentage of nicotine is in an e-liquid bottle.

The UK recently passed a law which will mean that e-liquid manufacturers in the UK will make nicotine strengths no greater than 20%. However, some other countries have no regulations on this, which could mean that you end up with a potentially toxic dose of nicotine in an e-liquid.

When choosing an e-liquid, it’s important to look out for one that contains the highest quality pharma-grade Nicotine and complies with USP and EP specifications.

VG and PG

Vegetable Glycerine (VG) adds a sweet taste to vaping, gives a smooth throat hit, and also helps produce vapour clouds. It’s normally made from vegetable oil in the UK and used regularly in the food industry.

Propylene Glycol (PG) is a great flavour carrier, which is also used in food and medicine, but it can also be used in beauty products and other items. Some people are allergic to PG and experience reactions like shortness of breath, stomach upset, rashes and sore throats, so it’s vital that the amount stated on an e-liquid is the same as what’s actually inside.

Unfortunately, in some countries and with cheap, unregulated brands, this is not always the case. There’s also the danger that the PG used could not be the digestible kind if the item is made outside the UK.

Flavourings

There is an enormous range of e-liquid tastes out there, which makes vaping a very flavoursome experience. It’s important that the flavourings are high quality, made for consumption, and are clearly what they say they will be on the packaging.

E-liquid manufacturers in the UK mark their flavourings clearly on bottles, and reputable suppliers source quality ingredients from the EU so they always know what they will be selling.

Look For Consistent Quality

When you buy from a reputable UK e-liquid manufacturer, you not only know that the ingredients will be of good quality, but you can rely on consistency.

Countries without regulations or quality ingredients like those in the UK could also make batches of e-liquids that taste completely different from a batch of the supposedly same production! This could result in a different flavour, quality, taste, throat hit or general satisfaction with an e-liquid. Buying from a UK e-liquid manufacturer means that they will be batch controlled, and good quality.

As well as ruining your vaping experience, poor quality e-liquids could potentially harm your health, damage your e-cigarettes, and burn on your wick too quickly.

You can avoid inconsistent e-liquids by making sure your e-liquid is made and manufactured in the UK, rather than another country. Some unregulated e-juice makes into the market with an English label applied over foreign labelling, something to check for UK vapours so you can be sure of the quality.
